31. 'A Small Family in a Big City' was the title of a series of ten comedies broadcast in November and December which attracted con- siderable listener attention.
32. Until November, two plays a week were broadcast in Kuoyu. In that month a third play was added and, of the three plays a week, two were episodes in a long serial and the third was complete in itself. A twice weekly comedy show in the form of a dialogue in Kuoyu was launched in April. To balance the Cantonese comedies, Chiuchow listeners heard one play a week in their own language.
Features and Documentaries
33. One of the major features of the year was the entire evening of Chinese New Year's eve on 27th January. From Australia came greetings from overseas Chinese, the Chinese group of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra which played so successfully in the Radio Hong Kong Arts Festival concert produced a programme of new con- temporary music, commentators and interviewers talked to the crowds in the New Year bazaar at Victoria Park by means of walkie-talkie transmitters, leading Cantonese opera stars took part in a special concert, artists from Chiuchow performed a special instrumental recital and a documentary on the Colony's prosperity was produced.
34. Recordings were broadcast of the celebrations of the First Full Moon Festival at Cheung Chau,
35. Early in the summer a party of press and radio reporters visited the open prison at Chi Ma Wan, Lantau Island. From interviews recorded with staff and prisoners, 'Prison without Walls', a sound picture of Chi Ma Wan, was broadcast in June. The annual Police Traffic Exhibition was also the subject of a feature programme in which Police officers stressed the importance of road safety.
36. 'Keep your City Clean' was a half-hour broadcast in February compiled from speeches made at the oratorical contest sponsored by the Urban Services Department and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
37. A regular weekly feature 'Sunday Miscellany' begun in November is, as its name implies, a kaleidoscope of light entertainment for Sunday mornings, including talks and discussions on careers, hiking, sports, hobbies. Another regular series was 'Love Thy Neighbour', a weekly programme highlighting the work of Kaifong, Clansmen and other district associations. Each programme outlines the work of an individual association and many Kaifong members have taken part as
