88. 'Bookshop' was an innovation in the technique of reviewing. In place of formal scripted review, came ad lib. discussion between two reviewers who often did not agree; the result was often heat as well as light. 'The Critics' continued to stir controversy with their reviews of films, plays, art and music, and the Arts Festival gave rise to special Festival programmes in which the festival events were reviewed and discussed.

89. Magazine programmes increased in range and topic. To ‘Movie Magazine', 'This Week', 'Motoring Magazine', 'Women Only' and 'Sports Cavalcade' were added 'Music Magazine'. More serious in intent were the 'Anthology' series of poetry programmes prepared by an ex-BBC producer who was lecturing at the University, and the prize winning short stories broadcast during the Festival.

RELIGION

90. The series of morning talks providing ‘A Thought on Your Way' continued to be given by clergy of all denominations. Sunday morning services were broadcast from the leading Colony churches of four de- nominations and from the studios special Forces services were held weekly. Also from the studios came twice weekly prayers by Roman Catholic and Protestant ministers and an Epilogue was broadcast each Sunday evening at the close of the day. Outstanding religious broad- casts of the year were the Easter ceremonies including the broadcast of 'The Way of the Cross' from the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Requiem Mass for Pope Pius XII, and finally a memorable occasion was the reading of the lesson from St. John's Cathedral by H.R.H. the Prince Philip.

OUTSIDE BROADCASTS

91. No broadcast is more of a challenge than that outside the studios where technical facilities move away from the familiar to the unknown, and where the producer and commentators must be flexed for immediate change of plan.

92. Outside broadcasts during the year included the Queen's Birth- day Parade, the Agricultural Show, Remembrance Day Parade, the Royal Hong Kong Defence Force Review and the Police Review. But the challenge was offered and accepted by more difficult broadcasting
