WOMEN AND CHILDREN
45. Women listeners benefited from the expanded services by having a daily programme six days a week in place of the weekly talks previously broadcast.
Two of these programmes were short plays dealing with family affairs, general knowledge, child care, etc., produced by Miss FUNG Piu Yeung. Questions sent in by listeners were answered by Miss Fook Ying in a weekly 'Women's Letterbox' and on the remaining mornings the transmissions consisted of a request programme 'The Busy Housewives' Choice'.
Early in 1958 the Women's Welfare Club, Eastern District, organized a series of nine talks for housewives on such subjects as Family Budget, Home First Aid, Training of children in Social Manners and Pre-natal and post-natal hygiene.
46. For the children there were five programmes a week, Monday to Friday, which included plays, scenes from history, fables and stories, general knowledge and music. Children from the Boys' and Girls' Clubs took part, and the Korean Orphans Band gave a concert during their stay in Hong Kong.
47. From June to November a special programme for the younger generation called 'Youth's Garden' was broadcast. In this programme, Mr. LAM Kiu #introduced talks on hobbies, appreciation of music and the works of noted writers in the Colony. Some of these writers appeared in person on the programme, including Mr. Kit Hak Mr. Big Lui, Mr. Nam Kung Pok, and Mr. YIP Ling Fung. There were also debates between students on such questions as the necessity to study the Chinese classics in order to be able to write. In November the series came to an end and was replaced by two programmes, 'Speaking of the Origin' and 'Talk on Popular Science'. In the first of these, listeners heard the story of the origin of some of the most common articles of daily life and in the second, simple explanations of the working of everyday gadgets.
RELIGION
48. Religious broadcasting was being reorganized at the end of the year. In the established pattern, five religious denominations had taken weekly turns in broadcasting a half hour service every Sunday evening. These denominations are the Roman Catholic Church, the Chinese Anglican Church, the Church of Christ in China, the Chinese Baptist
