Outside broadcasts.

122. Outside broadcasts totalled 383 during the year. Ninety- five of these were recorded outside the studios. A breakdown of the total compared with the 1955 period is as follows:

The increase in Chinese outside broadcasts is due to the resumption of broadcasts of Cantonese opera from local theatres. The use made of the various line connexions to outside broad- cast points is analyzed in Appendix E.

Arrangements were made to equalize the special line circuits provided by the Hong Kong Telephone Company for broadcasts of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra from the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in May, 1956.

The first broadcast of dance music from a passenger liner in port was made from the United States Lines' 'President Wilson' in August.

Special microphone wiring and outside broadcast control booths have been provided in the Legislative Council Chamber in the new Central Government offices.
