60. The Dragon Boat Races were covered for the first time from two places by Chinese commentators. The customary commentaries from the Chung Sing Bathing Shed at the Western end of the harbour were supplemented by recordings made at the Taipo races, where the highlight each year is the race between European and Chinese teams.

61. Another sporting favourite is the cross-harbour swim, which has been the subject of live broadcasts in Chinese for several years. Again this year, LAI Duen Po broadcast his commentary via a V.H.F. link transmitter on a launch and was able to see the race through from the first splash to the finish.

62. The 'Walkathon' is new to Hong Kong. Sponsored by the Standard - Sing Tao Newspapers, it attracted an astonishing- ly large number of people prepared to spend a Saturday after- noon and evening walking 41 miles round the Island. Sports commentators of both English and Chinese services followed in cars, recording interviews by portable recorder which were rushed back to the studios for broadcasts througout the race.

63. Another rare sporting event was the International 30,000 metres race at Caroline Hill Stadium, also covered by Chinese sports commentators.

64. Five religious denominations in the Colony take weekly turns in broadcasting a service every Sunday evening. They are the Roman Catholic Church, Chinese Anglican Church, Church of Christ in China, Chinese Baptist Church and Chinese Methodist Church.

65. A limited amount of listener research was possible this year by the production of a weekly 'Listeners Letterbox'. Listeners were asked to write in giving criticisms of pro- grammes and suggestions, and extracts from letters were read over the air. Only a fraction of the letters received could actually be broadcast. Over thirty letters a week were received,
