For the Younger Listener

84. Apart from the request programmes and similar light entertainment features which continued to hold universal appeal for the younger listeners, there were regular weekly sessions set aside for them and presented by a number of local "Aunts" and "Uncles". The content of these programmes varied from songs and stories for the very young to the people with strange and interesting jobs and hobbies who talked about themselves in the programmes for teenagers. These locally presented programmes were supplemented by suitable B.B.C. Transcriptions.

An inter-school quiz on knock-out tournament lines was organized among English secondary schools as a joint operation with the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Some twelve schools entered for the competition, which was still in progress at the year's end. A companion series was organized to run simultaneously in the Chinese service.

Young music lovers were specially catered for in a number of new programmes launched during the year (Para. 62).
