The Royal Tour of Nigeria in January 1956 was given full coverage in all its stages by the B.B.C., and the majority of these reports and commentaries were carried by Radio Hong Kong, as were the speeches at the Guildhall Banquet for Her Majesty on her safe return.

On October 21st there was a relayed B.B.C. commen- tary on the unveiling of the National Memorial Statue to His Late Majesty King George VI, by Her Majesty the Queen. On March 25th a recorded description of the laying of the foundation stone of the New Coventry Cathedral by Her Majesty the Queen was broadcast. The ceremony of installation of Her Majesty the Queen Mother as Chancellor of London University was relayed on 24th November.

Talks and Features

52. Speeches by His Excellency the Governor were relayed during a number of important functions. As Chancellor of the University His Excellency was heard during the Congrega- tion for the conferring of Degrees, while the Review of the Year given at the Budget Meeting of the Legislative Council was recorded in the Council Chamber and broadcast the same evening. Other occasions on which addresses by His Excellency were broadcast were the annual parades of the Hong Kong Defence Force, the St. John Ambulance and the Police Force, and the opening ceremonies of the Hong Kong Products Exhibition and the Government Stadium.

53. The Rt. Hon. Alan Lennox Boyd, Secretary of State for the Colonies, headed the list of distinguished visitors who broadcast over Radio Hong Kong during the year.

54.
