PART IV — ENGLISH PROGRAMMES

47. The establishment of the English programme section is normally one Senior Programme Assistant, two Programme Assistants, a Record Librarian and two clerk typists. This year however one of the Programme Assistant posts was supernumerary, held by an officer only able to work part-time, and another was filled by an officer comparative- ly new to radio work. It was therefore necessary for the Controller of Broadcasting to undertake a considerable amount of direct planning and supervisory responsibility for the English Service and make a substantial contribution of programme material.
