The programme aimed to promote an understanding of all aspects of police work, and to promote a greater understanding of such work among young members of the community. To this end groups of J.P.C. members made regular visits to Police Stations; saw the 999 Reporting Centre in operation, and were introduced to the work of the Juvenile Protection Branch.

The programme included reports of activities of members in various districts, including visits to hospitals, homes for the aged, orphanages, fund raising activities and participation in the Government's Clean The Beaches campaign.

Through the radio programme, J.P.C. members were encouraged to assist the police in helping to find stolen vehicles, identifying suspects, and searching for lost property. In return, the programme broadcast regular features on matters of public concern from fire precaution and road safety information, to the dangers of flying kites near the airport.

"An Hour With Eddie" is the Chinese Service equivalent to the Open Line segment on the early morning show on the English Service. It provided general information and helped listeners with various problems.

Since the retirement of Eddie Au-yeung in October 75 the programme has been hosted by CHUNG Wai-ming. The format has been changed slightly to include studio guests who can talk by phone with listeners and discuss complaints or issues of local importance. Guests included Legislative and Executive Councillors, representatives and spokesmen for Government Departments, including the police, as well as members of various social welfare and rehabilitation organisations. The daily morning programme has become one of the stations most successful productions, so much so that the switchboard at RTHK is virtually blocked everytime the programme gets underway.

'In Perspective' has become the major discussion programme in the Chinese Radio Service. It dealt with a specific question each week, and people concerned were invited to take part in discussions. Some of the problems discussed included:

Non-Commonwealth Doctors,

Triad Activities in Schools,

Loan-sharks,

Foul Language in Common Use

and Mercy Killing
