Student Resettlement Assistants/Resettlement Assistants (salary scale: $460–

$557/$793—$1,577; Technical, $972—$1,739)

Officers of this grade, together with their counterparts in the Works Division (Area Officers (Technical)), carry out the department's field work under the direction of Assistant Resettlement Officers. Their duties include looking after tenancy problems and the cleanliness of a number of domestic blocks, screening for resettlement, and patrolling squatter control areas. Some Resettlement Assistants are also engaged in office rather than field duties.

Electrical Inspectors (salary scale (Class II): $1,820—$2,986)

The main responsibility of the Electrical Inspectors is the maintenance of all electrical wiring in estates, factory blocks and cottage areas, under the overall charge of the Assistant Building Services Engineer,

138. During the year, the following changes occurred at Assistant Commissioner level or above:

In March 1969, Mr. P. BISHOP, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, was appointed to act as Commissioner for Resettlement in place of Mr. J. P. ASERAPPA, who proceeded on annual leave, and Mr. C. P. KEELING, Adminis- trative Officer, was appointed to act as Assistant Commissioner, Administration /Operations in place of Mr. BISHOP.

In March 1969, Mr. B. V. WILLIAMS, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, was appointed as Assistant Commissioner, Estates in place of Mr. A. T. R. JACKSON who proceeded on leave prior to retirement.

DEPARTMENTAL TRAINING

139. In July, the Training Unit moved from Pui Ching Road, Ho Man Tin, to better accommodation on the 3rd floor of Hotung House, Hankow Road. The new premises comprise 3 lecture-cum-conference rooms, a small library and 4 offices for the training staff.

140. The second senior officers' course, attended by 11 Assistant Resettlement Officers promoted on trial, started in July. This course is designed to provide officers promoted to the Assistant Resettle- ment Officer Grade with a good grounding in their new responsibilities. Three 2-year Student Resettlement Assistant courses were completed and another nine attended by 200 trainees, began during the year. These courses provide a thorough grounding in the duties of the grade and explain the various departmental procedures. Both the senior officers' course and those for Student Resettlement Assistants are attended on a one-day-a-week release basis.
