53. A total of 123 factories, 83 workshops and 439 shops was cleared, and allocated 136 units in resettlement factories and 318 shop or workshop premises in domestic estates. The details are as follows:

54. The figures in paragraph 52 are considerably less than those in previous years. The main reasons for this have already been noted in paragraph 16. The biggest operation during the year was the clearance of Tai Wo Hau licensed area for the construction of a Government Low-Cost Housing estate: 12,957 people were resettled from this area. Other notable clearances were for the Shing Mun River Flood Control Scheme in Sha Tin, the Aberdeen Sports Ground, the extension of Tai Kok Tsui Road and various clearances for the development of Castle Peak New Town.
