staff accordingly moved to new premises at Middle Road, in the Tsim Sha Tsui district of Kowloon, in May 1966. Even the new premises, which again are only intended for temporary occupation, are not large enough to house the whole headquarters, and the Works Division and Training Unit remain at Ho Man Tin. Apart from this fragmentation, the Middle Road location is not ideal in that it is some distance from the Kowloon and New Territories estates and squatter areas. However, space has been reserved in the projected North-East Kowloon Govern- ment Offices building near Kai Tak airport, and it is hoped that within a few years the headquarters will be re-united in their first permanent home.

STAFF QUARTERS

150. Departmental quarters, consisting of either single or two bed- room flats or cottages, are provided for certain grades of married and single departmental staff. During the year a new block of 43 flats near Lo Fu Ngam estate was occupied, and at 31st March the total number of quarters was 284. All quarters are situated in or near estates or cottage areas.
