Fees for these schools are limited to a maximum of $3 a month. Ground floor rooms are also suitable for case centre work, such as that now being done by the Family Welfare Association at Shek Kip Mei, and for medical clinics, two of which are to be opened by the Medical Department-one at Tai Hang Tung and one at Li Cheng Uk.
93. Large recreation spaces are also being provided within the boundaries of the estates and these will be laid out by the Urban Services Department in the same way as playgrounds and recreation spaces in other parts of the urban areas. They will then include small fenced-off playgrounds for young children, an enclosed area with lawns and benches for the more elderly, basketball courts and miniature football grounds.
94. Secondly, the Government has agreed that areas of Crown land in the vicinity of resettlement estates should be reserved for schools, welfare centres and clinics. By the end of the year a large Government polyclinic was under construc- tion near Shek Kip Mei and sites near Li Cheng Uk had been cleared for one Government school and two schools which will be built and run by voluntary agencies. Near Tai Hang Tung six sites have been granted for four schools and two welfare centres and a seventh site has been cleared for a Government school, while the redevelopment of Shek Kip Mei, to which reference has already been made, will provide two more sites for schools.
95. Particulars of the schools, welfare centres, and clinics in the cottage areas and in the multi-storey estates will be found at Appendices A and B to this chapter, which show clearly what a notable part is being played by many of the Colony's voluntary organizations.
