Visits

210. In July 1972 Mr. J. L. G. MCLEAN, Assistant Registrar General, attended a Round Table Meeting in Bangkok of Asian Insurance. Commissioners and other Senior Government Officials in charge of Insurance Supervision. The meeting, which was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East in co- operation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Develop- ment and the United Nations Office of Technical Co-operation, discussed means to foster and develop the national and regional insurance industries.

Lectures

211. During the year several Solicitors of the Department gave lectures on the law relating to Companies and Bankruptcy to members of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force, Assistant Labour Officers, Tribunal Officers and final-year students of the Hong Kong Polytechnic.

Staff

212. Five Solicitors, Miss K. W. M. DAWSON, Mr. E. J. DAVISON, Mr. W. M. CATLEY, Mr. A. H. PATEL and Mr. A. R. MILLER joined the Department during the year, and Mr. P. F. GRINDEY, Solicitor, rejoined the Department from the Judiciary. Mr. J. A. H. TILLEY, Assistant Registrar General, left the Department on leave prior to retirement. Mr. TILLEY was retiring after 17 years in Government service of which 13 were spent in Hong Kong. To mark the occasion the staff entertained Mr. and Mrs. TILLEY at a small cocktail party and presented them with a Victorian oak desk of their own choice. Three Solicitors, Miss J. C. SMITH, Mr. Job YOUNG and Miss K. W. M. DAWSON, left the Department on resignation. The Department was at the end of the year five short of its establishment of Solicitors.

213. During the year Mr. J. L. G. MCLEAN, Senior Solicitor, was promoted to Assistant Registrar General, and Mr. P. MURPHY, Solicitor, was promoted to Senior Solicitor.

214. The Departmental Secretary, Mr. P. A. LAW, left the Depart- ment on 8th March 1973 and was replaced by Mr. Pritam SINGH on transfer from the Colonial Secretariat.
