Companies Law Revision Committee

106. The Companies Law Revision Committee, of which the Registrar General is a member, concluded its discussions on legisla- tion for the prevention of fraud in relation to investments. The Com- mittee's first Report, entitled The Protection of Investors, was sub- mitted to the Governor on 24th June and published on 18th August 1971. After the submission of this Report, the Committee continued its deliberations on the more general aspects of company law revision, and by the end of the year had held 70 meetings in all.

107. The total of all fees collected by the Companies Registry under all Ordinances was over $10.38m., a decrease of $556,000 (or 5%) compared with the previous year's total. This year's total was made up as follows (with the previous year's figures for com- parison):

TRADE MARKS REGISTRY

108. The Trade Marks Ordinance is based on the United Kingdom Trade Marks Act 1938. The Register consists of two parts, Part A for distinctive marks, and Part B for marks which are not registrable in Part A but are capable of distinguishing the goods of the applicant and have been used in Hong Kong for not less than two years. Registration in Part A gives full rights of protection, in Part B modified rights. Registrations are valid for seven years, but may be renewed indefinitely for further periods of fourteen years.
