As will be seen, the number of deaths by accident increased by 1 only, but there were unhappily 67 more suicides, an increase of 17.5% over the previous year's figure. The numbers of deaths by accident or suicide over the past five years have been as follows:

As compared with the previous year the number of both male and female deaths by accident showed almost no change, but there were again more male and female deaths by suicide.

Re-registration of Births and Deaths
180. The Births Registration (Special Registers) Ordinance and the Deaths Registration (Special Registers) Ordinance provide for the re- registration of births and deaths recorded in registers destroyed or lost during the Japanese occupation. 72 births were re-registered during the year, and altogether 5,662 births and 66 deaths have now been re-registered under these two Ordinances.
