Companies incorporated outside the Colony
82. Thirty-four companies incorporated outside the Colony estab- lished a place of business within the Colony and complied with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance. At the end of the year there were 600 such companies registered as compared with 592 the year before. Table XVI shows the countries in which these 600 companies are incorporated. The United States leads with 150 companies, and is followed by the United Kingdom with 98, Japan 60, Panama 40, Singapore 36, Switzerland 27, Australia and China 24 each, and Canada and Malaysia 20 each.
83. Table XVII gives an analysis of the 600 companies to which the preceding paragraph refers according to the nature of their business. This shows that the total includes 124 import and export companies, 82 insurance companies, 43 banks, 45 shipping, etc. companies, 33 religious bodies, 29 carriers (air and land), 28 engineering, etc. com- panies, and 25 land and building companies.
