have also been decreases as compared with 1966-67 in the other categories including 67 less companies in the $100,000 and under $500,000 range. Many companies are incorporated with low capitals pending further developments; for instance, some solicitors and accountants like to keep a few incorporated companies 'in stock', the capitals of which are increased as soon as clients take over the companies and commence business. The aggregate total of all capitals was $414,618,420, $166,000,000 less than the previous year's total, mainly accounted for by decreases of $70m. for importers and exporters, $20m. for land investment, $14m. for engineering, etc. companies, $13m. for metals and hardware, $12m. for financiers, $11m. for transportation, $8m. for shipping and $7m. for wig manufacturers.
73. Table XIV shows graphically the post-war trends of the numbers of companies incorporated and the totals of their nominal capitals, and the trends since 1959-60 of the numbers of land investment and import/export companies.

Table XV gives an analysis according to the nature of business of the 296 companies dissolved or removed from the register during the year and also of the aggregate total of 920 for the five years ended 31st March 1968. The main casualties were as usual in import and export companies, which lost 80, land investment companies lost 46, shipping 19, restaurants 17, textile companies 14, garment manufacturers 11 and financiers 10.
75. With 1,215 new companies, and 296 dissolutions, there was a net increase of 919 in the number of companies on the register, which on 31st March 1968 stood at 11,889, comprising 841 public companies (mostly companies limited by guarantee), and 11,048 private companies.
76. The number of documents received for filing dropped slightly to 29,967, but the number of inspections of files by the public rose
