As will be seen, deaths by accident and suicides decreased, the former by 75 and the latter by 62. There were 607 male accidental deaths as compared with 301 female. Of the 301 suicides 190 were of males and 111 of females.

Re-registration of Births and Deaths
167. The Births Registration (Special Registers) Ordinance and the for the re- registration of births and deaths recorded in registers destroyed or lost during the Japanese occupation. 108 births and one death were re- registered during the year, and altogether 5,333 births and 66 deaths have now been re-registered under these two Ordinances.

Prosecutions
168. As a result of information given to the Police by the Registry nine prosecutions were undertaken, mostly in respect of false informa- tion given in relation to births. All the accused were convicted, and fines of up to $1,700 were imposed.
