As will be seen deaths by accident increased by 133, but there were 7 suicides less. There were 662 male accidental deaths as compared with 321 female. Of the 363 suicides 218 were of males and 145 of females.

162. Full statistics of the causes of the deaths registered may be found in Table 49 of the Annual Departmental Report of the Director of Medical and Health Services.

Re-registration of Births and Deaths

163. The Births Registration (Special Registers) Ordinance and the Deaths Registration (Special Registers) Ordinance provide for the re- registration of births and deaths recorded in registers destroyed or lost during the Japanese occupation. 82 births were re-registered during the year, and altogether 5,225 births and 65 deaths have now been re- registered under these two Ordinances.

Prosecutions

164. As a result of information given to the Police by the Registry ten prosecutions were undertaken, mostly in respect of false information given in relation to births. All the accused were convicted, and fines up to $800 were imposed.

Adoptions

165. An Adopted Children Register is maintained at the General Register Office under the Adoption Ordinance 1956. During 1964–65, 122 adoptions were registered, one more than in 1963-64. These new registrations brought to 993 the total number of adoptions registered
