142. The registration facilities for the Shau Kei Wan area were improved by the removal of the District Birth Registry from Shau Kei Wan Public Dispensary to the Jockey Club Polyclinic at Chai Wan Road on 15th July 1964. Not only is the new accommodation more spacious than the old but it is more conveniently situated being within easy reach of the now heavily developed area of Chai Wan.

Population

143. According to the 1961 Census the population of the Colony on 7th March 1961 was 3,133,131 including 3,483 persons classified as transients. Since then the estimated population has risen as follows:

The natural increase in the population in 1964, being the number by which the registered births exceeded the registered deaths in that year, was 90,406.
