and Table XII shows the numbers registered in each of the new classes. Table XIII shows the countries of origin of the applications for these marks.

40. 187 marks were removed from the Register for non-payment of the registration renewal fee, six were cancelled at the request of the registered proprietors, and one was removed by order of the Registrar.

41. The total number of marks on the Register on 31st March, 1959, was 15,284, consisting of 3,207 re-registered pre-war marks and 12,077 new marks.

Oppositions to Registration

42. Seventeen notices of opposition to applications for registra- tion were received. Four oppositions were withdrawn, seven opposed applications were abandoned, one opposed application went to a hearing before the Registrar, and the remaining five cases were pending at the end of the year.

Miscellaneous

43. 262 marks were registered as Associated Trade Marks. 186 registrations were renewed. 164 changes were made in the names and addresses of registered proprietors. 134 persons were entered as sub- sequent proprietors of marks by assignment or transmission, 128 with goodwill, six without. 121 applications for registration of Registered Users were received, and 121 Registered Users registered.

44. 9,770 marks had been indexed by the end of the year under the new Card Index System based on the system of sub-classification in use in the Patent Office, London.

45. Table XIV gives statistics of registrations, renewals, etc., for the ten years 1949/50-1958/59.

Fees

46. Fees collected during the year amounted to $137,665.50, which is over $15,000 more than the previous year's figure, and the highest total ever received.
