21. Table VII gives statistics of marriages for the past ten years.
Plans for New Sub-registries
22. As will be seen from Table VII the numbers of marriages performed at the Marriage Registries have been increasing rapidly during the past few years, and as there was every indication that this trend would continue proposals were submitted to Government for the gradual expansion of the present facilities over the next few years. These proposals were approved in principle, and authority was given for the recruitment of additional staff in 1959/60 to enable new Sub- registries to be opened in outlying parts of the Island and the New Territories. These will operate on a part-time basis, opening one day a week, fortnight, or month, according to the demand which develops.
