Surrenders of Crown Land
9. 110 Deeds of Surrender comprising 159 lots or sections of lots were registered, the total amount paid by the Government in respect of such surrender being $117,104. Most of these Surrenders were in connexion with Exchanges, Grants of new Leases, and the transfer to the Government of the responsibility for private streets and lanes. In such cases the Government pays nothing for the surrender.
Crown Rents
10. Tables IV and V give details of the numbers of lots on the Principal and Village Rent Rolls. The number of lots on the Principal Rent Roll has increased by 271 to 17,029, and the total Crown Rent by some $90,000 to $1,656,165.40, the latter increase being due partly to new sales, and partly to increased rents obtained on the grant of new leases to the holders of expired seventy five year leases. The principal increases are of 160 Hong Kong Inland Lots, forty eight New Kowloon Inland Lots and fifty seven Kun Tong Inland Lots. The twenty Shek O Headland Lots shown in last year's Rent Roll do not appear in this year's Roll because the five year leases for these lots expired on 31st December, 1957.
11. The number of lots on the Village Rent Roll continues slowly to dwindle, there being five fewer than in 1956/57.
12. The Crown Rents of 363 sections of lots were determined under the Crown Rents (Apportionment) Ordinance (Cap. 125).
