received prior to 1st January, 1955, the date the new Trade Marks Ordinance came into force, and these marks were there- fore registered according to the classes prescribed under the former Ordinance. The remaining 1,010 were registered according to the new classification, and Table XII shows the numbers registered in each of the new classes. Table XIII shows the country of origin of the application in the case of each of the 1,037 marks registered.
106 marks which were on the lost pre-war Register were registered in the new Register under the Trade Marks Register (Reconstruction) Ordinance (Cap. 262)-making a total of 3,400 old Register Marks registered in the new Register as at 31st March, 1957.
3 marks were removed from the Register for non-payment of the registration renewal fee, and 4 at the request of the registered proprietors.
The total number of marks on the Register on 31st March, 1957, was 13,128.
Oppositions to Registration.
34. In 6 cases, notices of opposition to applications for registration were received, two of which went to hearings before the Registrar.
Miscellaneous.
35. 258 marks were registered as Associated Trade Marks. 175 registrations were renewed, and changes were made in the names and addresses of registered proprietors in 303 cases. 120 persons were entered in the Register as subsequent pro- prietors of marks by assignment or transmission, 114 with good-will, 6 without. 142 applications for registration of Registered Users were received, all of which were registered. 6 applications filed during 1955/56 were also registered.
Fees.
36. The total of fees collected during the year amounted to $110,184.00.
