PART II-MARRIAGE REGISTRY.

MARRIAGES.

1. The number of marriages celebrated in the Colony during the year (1.4.49-31.3.50) was 2185 (of which 1918 were between Chinese persons), as compared with 2951 (and 2479) respectively in 1948-a decrease of 766. Particulars are given in Table I infra.

FEES.

The total amount of fees received under the second schedule of the Marriage Ordinance 1875, and the Marriage (War Period) (Validity) Ordinance 1948, was $21,295.00 com- pared with $30,377.00 in 1948-a decrease of $9,082. Particulars are shewn in Table II. The decrease is mainly accounted for by the lesser number of marriages.

3. The number of marriages solemnised and the total amount of fees collected each year during the ten years (1934- 1939 and 1946-1949) are shewn in Table III.
