SOME NINETEENTH CENTURY WATER-COLOURS OF CANTON AND THE FAR EAST

A small collection of mid-nineteenth century water-colours of the Far East recently came to light in a London dealer's. The paintings are mainly of China, in particular Canton, with inscriptions and dates in pencil or paint; at some later date, they have been numbered in Roman numerals in ink on the reverse.
The list of the paintings is as follows, showing the number on the reverse, the inscription on the face of the painting (in italics), and a brief description by the author. The spelling and punctuations are as in the originals.

A sailing vessel.
IV China Sea the green clouds are from nature
Small junk against the sunset.

A fort with a red-coated soldier on guard and mountains seen on the far side of the channel.
