In addition to projects designed within the Architectural Office, the Branch is responsible for the design, specification and the supervision of the installation of Building Services in buildings designed by private architects on behalf of the Government. The Branch has also commissioned Consultant Engineers for building engineering services estimated to cost $41.5M in eight major projects which are at present in various stages of investigation, design or progress. Assistance has also been given to the Education Department on the subject of building services installations in grant-in-aid and subsidized schools, to the Hong Kong Housing Society, subvented organisations, and the Universities and Polytechnic Grants Committee.

During the year, contracts and sub-contracts were let for building services in New Works to a total value of $68.93M and work to the value of $18.99M was ordered on the electrical, lift and other maintenance contracts. In addition, standard fittings and other materials to the value of $5.59M were ordered through the Government Supplies Department for incorporation in the works.
