The Quantity Surveying and Building Services Branches also advise the Director of Education on drawings, specifications, contract documents, tenders, final accounts, building services installations and maintenance work for grant-in-aid and subsidized schools, and site inspections are made. Work estimated at $24,062,000 was started on 25 new projects and work costing $18,617,000 was completed on 29 schools. Repair and maintenance work estimated at $8,251,000 was started on some 264 schools and was completed at a cost of $5,493,000 on 195 schools. Advice was given on one interest-free loan, amounting to some $4,567,000, to a school.

Included in the technical services within the Office Headquarters is a Project Estimate and Co-ordination section. This section, headed by a Chief Quantity Surveyor, is a multi-discipline unit with the function of centralising, co-ordinating and constantly reviewing information on all matters relating to cost and expenditure on the projects in hand or under consideration.
