Preliminary investigation work on the Sha Tin Refuse Composting Plant and Sai Tso Wan High Density Baling Plant were completed and Reports were received from the consultants and circulated to interested departments. Implementation of these 2 projects will now follow in accordance with the 10-year Solid Waste Disposal Programme.

3.18 Experimental work continued at the pilot sewage treatment plant at Shek Wu Hui. This study will yield valuable data for the selection of treatment processes and design of future sewage treatment plants in the territory.

Port Works

3.19 The planning of marine structures such as piers, breakwaters, seawalls and beacons is carried out broadly in accordance with a 5-year programme of work. This programme is based on the requirements for marine facilities, but takes into account their importance in relation to the many other items in Public Works Programme.
