GENERAL

10:01 The Town Planning Office is responsible for the formulation of planning policies and planning standards, the preparation and revision of statutory outline zoning plans and departmental outline development and layout plans, development control and related planning matters. The work requires extensive consultation with Government departments, utility companies, other organizations and the public. The Office services the Town Planning Board and the Land Development Policy Committee, which are the two main bodies responsible for town planning in Hong Kong. The Office also provides planning advice on public and private development projects and gives advice to the New Territories Administration and many other advisory bodies.

10:02 During the year, the Town Planning Board met on 12 occasions and considered 28 papers, draft outline zoning plans for 12 planning areas in the urban areas and 63 applications for permission under Section 16 of the Town Planning Ordinance.

10:03 The Land Development Policy Committee and its two sub-committees, the Layout Plans Sub-Committee and the Industrial Land Sub-Committee, considered 51 papers presented by the Town Planning Office. Items considered included draft outline zoning plans, departmental outline development and layout plans, planning guides for rural areas, planning briefs for public housing estates, provision of open spaces and revision of the Hong Kong Outline Plan.
