This Division is responsible for the management of highways projects entrusted to Consulting Engineers. These projects continued to constitute a major share of highways expenditure and the total value of works under the responsibility of the Division reached $133 million this year. Five firms of Consultants (three overseas and two local) were engaged on highways projects.
Works in Hong Kong
9.45
On Hong Kong Island, construction of the Robinson Road/Castle Road junction improvement reached an advanced stage whilst the Harcourt Road Footbridge was completed and opened to pedestrian traffic towards the end of 1976. Work on three major projects, namely Garden Road Roundabout Improvement, Queensway Flyover and Canal Road Flyover Extension was started. Tenders for the Aberdeen Tunnel were received and the design of the Ap Lei Chau Bridge, which will be the first bridge linking Hong Kong Island with an outlying island, was substantially completed. On the eastern part of the Island, the site investigation for Hong Kong Island Eastern Corridor Stage I was completed and detailed design work on this important coastal route continued. The preparation of tender documents for both the Tai Hang Road Flyover and Robinson Road/Old Peak Road and Robinson Road/Glenealy Junction Improvements continued as
