During the year under review twenty-seven domestic blocks containing 96,296 individual units were completed at various Estates and one Mark I block accommodating 1,116 individual units was converted to self-contained flats at Shek Kip Mei Estate. In addition to those completed or converted, a further seventeen domestic blocks which, when completed, will provide 86,276 individual units, were under construction at five Public Housing Estates. (An individual unit of accommodation means a unit of living space designed for one adult). In addition to this housing, seven estate primary schools containing 168 classrooms, together with nine kindergartens, were completed and construction was in hand on thirteen similar schools and eight kindergartens.

Two welfare buildings, three markets, three restaurants and two department stores were also completed, while four restaurants and three markets were in the course of construction.

Work was completed on the site formation for the balance of Pak Tin Estate. This will provide sites for the future building of accommodation for some 18,750 people.

Planning or preparatory work was in progress to the balance of Pak Tin Estate, the conversion or redevelopment of Shek Kip Mei Estate and the second phase of an Estate in Tuen Mun Area 6, all of which, when completed, will provide a further 62,900 individual units.
Medical and Health Buildings

The construction work on the combined staff quarters to serve both the Princess Margaret General Hospital at Lai Chi Kok and the future second mental hospital, to be sited adjacent to the General Hospital, was completed in May 1975.

A new specialists clinic to serve the eastern part of Hong Kong Island was completed and handed over in August 1975.

The second stage of the Tsuen Wan/Kwai Chung Polyclinic was completed in January 1976.
