GENERAL
12.05 Responsibility for the development of a New Town at Sha Tin is borne by the Sha Tin New Town Development Office. The full extent of the new town as planned covers an area of some 1,730 hectares in the Sha Tin valley and will accommodate some half a million persons.
12.06 A development programme for Sha Tin New Town, originally prepared in August 1974 and updated in July 1975, consisted of 12 individual packages with varying priorities. Each of these packages can be treated to a large extent as a self-contained development and provides flexibility of expenditure whilst maintaining a balance of development.
PROGRESS
12.07 The Tolo Harbour Investigation progressed satisfactorily. Installation of two tide gauges, a wave recorder and an anemometer was completed and these were handed over to the Royal Observatory for monitoring. Proposals for carrying out a numerical model study of surge in the Harbour were approved by Government and the study is being undertaken jointly by the Consulting Engineers and the Royal Observatory. Supplementary reports on the highway network in Sha Tin, the Shing Mun River study and the village of Tsang Tai Uk were completed by the
