11.134 This Branch deals with personnel matters and provides general administration, secretariat, transport and other support services.

STAFF, TRAINING AND WELFARE

Staff

11.135 Twenty-eight members of the staff who had each served for more than 25 years retired during the year.

Training

11.136 Sixteen apprentice engineers were undergoing training within the Office under the Practical Training Scheme of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

11.137 Training was restricted due to the transfer of the Assistant Waterworks Inspector (Training) to other duties, the post remaining vacant for most of the year owing to restrictions on recruitment.

11.138 The Waterworks Inspector (Training) attended courses on basic training, audio-visual aids and examination techniques and an Assistant Waterworks Chemist undertook seven months training attachments to various water authorities in the United Kingdom.

11.139 Three training courses for newly recruited House Service Inspectors, refresher courses for foremen and minor staff in the Waste Detection, Headworks & House Service Sections and a training course for Junior Meter Readers were held. In-service training of technical staff and Assistant Instrument Mechanics continued, as did training of apprentices in association with the Engineer (Training) of the Electrical and Mechanical Office.
