The total revenue collected for fresh and salt water supplied to consumers amounted to $165 million. More than 82,000 enquiries and/or complaints relating to water charges were received during the year, which is approximately 5% more than in the preceding year.
Staff
STAFF, TRAINING AND WELFARE

Sixteen members of the staff who had each served for more than 25 years retired during the year.
Training
11.130
Ten apprentice engineers were undergoing training within the Office under the Practical Training Scheme of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
11.131 The collection of material and information and the preparation of lecture notes and visual aids for future courses continued. To improve the training facilities of the section a new tape recorder with built-in synchroniser for sound slide presentation has been ordered.
11.132 Two training courses for newly recruited inspectors in the House Service Section, refresher courses for Mains and House Service foremen and artisans, and induction and training courses for junior meter readers and newly promoted foremen were arranged. In-service training of technical staff and assistant instrument mechanics continued and also training of apprentices in association with the Engineer (Training) of the Electrical and Mechanical Office.
Welfare
11.133 Assistance was given to a number of officers on matters concerning applications for loans, housing problems, probate procedure, children's education and employment, employment for retired officers and families of deceased officers. Visits to staff in hospital, at home, or at their place of work were made by the Welfare Officer.
