The planned maintenance programmes operated by the Division cover 62 waterworks pumping stations, 14 treatment works and 58 minor installations. The total installed electrical horsepower increased from 90,246 to 90,268, of which 69,530 operated at high voltage 3,300 volts to 11,000 volts.
The maintenance programmes also cover the associated switchgear and auxiliary equipment.
During the year 6 high voltage and 9 medium voltage motors developed faults. Twelve were repaired by divisional staff. The remainder were dealt with by local and overseas contractors.

11.73 Defects were discovered in the main high voltage switchboard at Sandy Bay Pumping Station and were rectified in conjunction with a major overhaul of the board.

Three high voltage power factor correction capacitors were installed and commissioned at River Indus Pumping Station. Installation of a further four at Muk Wu and two at Tai Po Tau was in hand. Two replacement units were installed and commissioned at Pui O Pumping Station.
11.75 A defective 48 inch electro-magnetic flowmeter (Supply Basin) was stripped and completely rebuilt.

A replacement length of 6,600 volt submarine type cable was laid on the bed of Plover Cove Reservoir to carry power to the floating pumping station 'Cambo' when it is moored in the mid reservoir position.
11.77 An emergency generator was purchased and installed in Tsuen Wan Pumping Station to cater for essential station electricity supplies.
Development and New Projects
11.78 Co-ordination with the consultants was maintained in connection with design, installation and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation equipment for the Plover Cove and High Island Water Schemes.
11.79 The design of security lighting for the Main Pumping Station of the High Island Water Scheme was completed, and a security lighting installation at Tai Po Tau Pumping Station was installed.
11.80 A specification for electrical and instrumentation plant and equipment required for the extension of Tuen Mun Treatment Works was issued as part of the main plant specification.
11.81 Work on the installation of plant instrumentation and building services at 2 pumping stations, 2 treatment works and 3 workshops/depots was completed and the plant was commissioned. Level measuring and transmission equipment was installed at 4 service reservoirs. Procurement of electrical and instrumentation equipment was being progressed on 12 pumping stations and for the extension of one treatment works.
11.82 Building services for the new office annex building in Argyle Street Depot were completed. This necessitated a complete re-organisation of the electrical distribution system. The work included installation of a passenger lift and air conditioning plant.
