The Second Edition of the Hong Kong Official Guide Map was published during the year, and has been selling steadily at the rate of about 1,000 per month.
A reprint, incorporating minor corrections, is currently in hand.

Sheet 2 (New Territories West) of the Countryside Series was eventually published at the end of March 1974. It is expected to prove as popular as Sheet 1 (Hong Kong Island) which is again sold out and being revised for urgent reprinting.

Small maps were produced for the Information Services Department to illustrate the booklet "An Introduction to Hong Kong" and revision was carried out on the end plates to both language versions of the Hong Kong Annual Report. A new harbour chart was produced for the Marine Department and various approach diagrams for the Civil Aviation Department.

Sales of maps, plans and air photographs to the public levelled off during the year, being only marginally in excess of the previous record breaking year. A new price structure was agreed at the end of the year for introduction at the beginning of the 1974/75 year.
7.51 The now well equipped photo-reprographic section saw demand remain at the record level set last year. Total production was almost identical in quantity.

A Chinese language photo-type-setting machine was acquired, enabling the supply of Chinese characters for all dual language maps from our own resources without undue delay.
STAFF, TRAINING AND WELFARE
Staff
7.53 The total authorised establishment amounted to 1,134 persons, an increase of 163 over the previous year. The Office continued to recruit professional staff for the New Territories Administration and the Civil Engineering and Highways Offices and Mass Transit Office.
7.54 Fourteen Estate Surveyors, two Land Surveyors and two Planning Officers were appointed on contract during the year.
Local officers continued to be recruited and received in-service training, and in this category two Assistant Estate Surveyors who became professionally qualified were promoted to Estate Surveyors and two Student Estate Surveyors were promoted to Assistant Estate Surveyors.
One non-expatriate Assistant Land Surveyor was promoted to Land Surveyor and two non-expatriate Assistant Planning Officers were promoted to Planning Officers. During the year two Senior Estate Surveyors and four Estate Surveyors resigned, one Senior Estate Surveyor retired and one Chief Estate Surveyor left Government service on completion of his contract.
