Resumption Sections
7.18
The two Resumption Sections dealt with all acquisitions for public purposes except Urban Renewal. The Sections acquired 4 properties by agreement for $918,899 and thirty-four parts of sites for road widening purposes at a cost of $7,033,800. Also completed were 48 cases of grant of land in lieu of cash compensation involving the grant of 86,000 square feet of land. In addition, 5 resumption notices were gazetted in respect of 38 lots. Evidence was given by expert witnesses to 5 Compensation Boards and compensation of $244,253 was awarded in respect of 15 lots.

The Sections also effected 10 street closures under the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance and secured the vesting of 2 areas of private streets in the Crown under the Crown Land Ordinance.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT DIVISION
Urban Renewal Sections
7.20 The two Urban Renewal Sections' responsibilities are to implement the Pilot Scheme for slum clearance in Western District, and also to implement Draft and Statutory Town Plans by property acquisition where necessary. During the year, 94 properties were acquired by negotiation at an aggregate cost of $42,974,755. Resumption notices were gazetted in respect of 46 properties and evidence was given by expert witnesses before 10 Resumption Boards. Compensation awarded by Boards totalled $8,262,898 in respect of 41 properties.
Colonial Treasurer Incorporated/Regrant/Renewal Section
7.21 Regrants of 162 non-renewable leases including those to the Colonial Treasurer Incorporated were completed involving premia of $25,076,373 (paid in a lump sum) and instalments of $5,025,859 per annum mostly payable over 20 years.

Work continued on the assignment of interests by Colonial Treasurer Incorporated to owners of undivided shares in properties in multiple ownership, together with the attendant apportionments of premia and Crown rents. Crown rent returns for lease renewals under the Crown Leases Ordinance 1973 are being dealt with by a specially created Lease Renewal Administration Unit which commenced operations.
