The Eastern Road which provides direct access to the new Air Cargo Complex area was completed during the year. Surfacing works were progressing well in conjunction with the development of the Apron Services Complex.
The reconstruction of the northern access road bridge was completed.
6.27
Good progress was maintained on a number of major drainage contracts. These include the extension of Kai Tak Nullah, and the construction of 2 arterial culverts bounding the Air Cargo Complex site. Planning was in hand for a contract for the construction of a further 900 feet of the Kai Tak Nullah.

The existing western car park for Government and airline staff was extended to provide 570 spaces and converted to public use for the period of construction of the new multi-storey car park. The staff car parks were reprovisioned within the permit area.

Planning for the new air cargo apron and associated facilities was in hand. Detailed design and planning for the construction of a new taxiway and five parking bays for the R.A.F. were nearing completion.
6.31
Maintenance and minor works costing $720,000 were carried out during the year together with miscellaneous works for other Departments including duct installation and other civil engineering works in connection with the H.T. ring main for the Electrical and Mechanical Office. Other work started included provision of security signs on the runway promontory and roads and drains in connection with the new temporary fire station.

The Division is responsible for the investigation, planning, design and construction of all new stormwater drains, sewers and sewage disposal systems in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. The Division is also responsible for operation and maintenance of sewage plants.
Construction

Major works carried out during the year on Hong Kong Island included the construction of main stormwater drains and sewers in Chai Wan Road extension, a section of nullah at Staunton Creek, drainage improvement works in village areas in Shau Kei Wan and in Sandy Bay, and a submarine sewage outfall for Wan Chai.
In Kowloon, a temporary screening plant at Lai Chi Kok and drainage improvement for Wong Tai Sin Estate were completed. In the New Territories, major works included the construction of a temporary sewage treatment works for Sha Tin New Town, drainage for On Lok Tsuen and the implementation of the Shing Mun River Flood Control Scheme.
