Military Works and Services

2.41

Under the 1971 Defence Costs Agreement, the Public Works Department is required to undertake all maintenance works and services in Military Establishments throughout the Colony as well as the design and construction of new capital projects for the three Services.

2.42

The cost of all maintenance and minor works services costing less than £5,000 or $63,000 is borne by the Hong Kong Government as a charge against general revenue. Major capital works costing over £5,000 are charged against the Hong Kong Government's total agreed capital works contribution of £17M. for the five-year period of the agreement.

2.43

Expenditure incurred in connection with Military works and services amounted to $58,131,113 represented by:-

Maintenance services $23,932,737 New services minor works $1,976,382 Capital works $32,221,994 $58,131,113

2.44

Accumulative capital works expenditure under the current Defence Costs Agreement to 31.3.74 amounts to $166,460,151 leaving a balance of $80,889,849 which is fully committed against projects already approved.

Revenue

2.45 The revenue collected by the Department during the year totalled $500.331M. compared with $849.970M. in the previous year. A comparison between the amounts collected in each of the two years on the main items of revenue is shown in the following table:-
