Satisfactory progress was maintained despite the world-wide crisis on fuel and oil products.
11.108 The Kwun Mun strait was closed by cofferdams, which form the permanent protective works to the main dams. Excavation for the foundation of the West Dam was in progress.

Progress in the construction of tunnels and intakes continued satisfactorily.
Raising of Plover Cove Dams, Uprating and Extension of Sha Tin Treatment Works and Pumping Station and Tai Po Tau Pumping Station

Raising of the dams and associated works at Plover Cove Reservoir were completed. Grouting to the Saddle Dam was found necessary in order to seal off seepage which was discovered when the Reservoir was filled to its top water level for the first time in September 1973.

Civil engineering works and installation of pumping plant associated with the extension of Sha Tin Treatment Works and Pumping Station were completed and the new pumpsets and clarifiers put into service. Installation of electrical and chemical plant was in hand.
11.112 At Tai Po Tau Pumping Station, installation of the pumping plants, band screens and ancillary mechanical plant was completed. Commissioning of the tunnel gates was delayed pending the delivery of the electrical switchgear from the United Kingdom.
River Training Works at Tai Po
11.113 The feasibility report submitted by the consulting engineers was accepted and an item included in the Public Works Programme for its implementation by the Civil Engineering Office.
North Western Water Scheme - Pollution Study
11.114 The Report submitted by the consulting engineers was considered by the Public Works Sub-Committee and it was decided that because of the polluted state of the streams, no action would be taken at the present time although the potential benefits of the scheme would be kept in mind.
