The Division is responsible for the preparation of outline proposals for new water supply schemes for proposed developments throughout the Colony as well as for revision of requirements to meet growth of demand in existing, developing and redeveloping areas.

The study on the distribution of water from the High Island Water Scheme via the North Point submarine main to Hong Kong Island was completed, taking into consideration the possible usage of the proposed Aberdeen tunnel to accommodate water mains. A recommendation was made for the pumping requirements at North Point to boost supplies to the north eastern part of Hong Kong Island.

11.37 An assessment was made of the demand in the mid-level area of Hong Kong Island with the view to checking the adequacy of existing installations to meet future requirements. Proposals for improvement to the Pokfulam high level supply zone were finalised.

11.38

The feasibility of providing fresh and flushing water to proposed redevelopment of Taikoo property at Quarry Bay and the high level development of Shau Kei Wan was studied.

11.39 Investigation was carried out on extending the existing Tai Hang Service Reservoir supply zone. An assessment was made of the demand of Stanley Fort area with a view to extending the Red Hill supply zone.

11.40 Preliminary investigation into providing potable water to the proposed oil refinery at Lamma Island and the development at Northern Lantau and Ma Wan was carried out.

11.41

Detailed planning on the reprovisioning of the existing workshops and depot facilities at Lung Cheung Road and Wan Chai reclamation was put in hand.

11.42

The analysis of the adequacy of fresh water trunk mains in Kowloon and New Kowloon to distribute future resources was completed, and a recommendation on the additional primary storage requirements at Lion Rock was made.

11.43

The timings of Ho Man Tin West, Hammer Hill and Ngau Chi Wan Service Reservoirs were examined in connection with proposals for the temporary use of these sites.

11.44

Proposals were made for the supply of water to the residential area of the Kowloon Foothills Development.
