Of this sum, $106,715,000 was spent on Resettlement and Low Cost Housing, $67,464,000 on other Government projects undertaken in this office and $4,548,000 on Government projects undertaken by private architects. The value of work ordered on the Maintenance Contracts amounted to $32,400,000; $2,987,000 was spent on electricity and the cleaning of Government buildings under the control of this office.

The Quantity Surveying and Building Services Branches also advise the Director of Education on drawings, specifications, contract documents, tenders, final accounts, building services installations and maintenance work for grant-in-aid and subsidized schools and site inspections are made. Work estimated at $32,200,000 was started on 57 new projects and work costing $20,700,000 was completed on 58 schools. Repair and maintenance work estimated at $2,200,000 was started on some 211 schools and was completed at a cost of $1,700,000 on 174 schools. Advice was given on interest-free loans to 3 schools, amounting to some $3,800,000.
