10.43. The Division is responsible for the preparation of outline proposals for new water supply schemes for proposed developments throughout the Colony and also for revision of requirements in existing developments. On 1st April, 1970, the Hydrological and Water Resources Survey Sections were transferred to the Supply Division.

10.44. A joint examination by this division and Messrs. Binnie & Partners of the safety of impounding and service reservoirs with a capacity of more than ten million gallons continued and interim recommendations for more detailed investigations on six impounding reservoirs were made.

10.45. A study of the adequacy of existing treatment works, service reservoirs and trunk supply mains in relation to both demand trends and the implementation of High Island Water Scheme and Desalination continued.

10.46. Detailed planning for the timing of a further extension of Sha Tin Treatment Works, additional pumping and aqueduct system requirements through Lion Rock, and requirements for a trunk feed system with pumping stations on the Island to meet future demand between Wan Chai and Chai Wan were in hand. A study of the future supply of salt water for the Chai Wan area was completed.

An assessment of future water demand from the proposed developments in the high level areas of Ngau Chi Wan, Hammer Hill, Shun Lee Tsuen, Sau Mau Ping and Ham Tin was revised to follow recent changes in the pattern of land use. A study of the timing for additional pumping and service reservoir requirements was in hand.
