14 Engineering graduates of the University of Hong Kong employed under agreement as apprentice engineers in accordance with the Regulations of the Institution of Civil Engineers were rotated amongst the various divisions of the office for practical training.
Welfare
9.106. Quarterly meetings of the Joint Staff Discussion Groups continued between representatives of the management and the staff of the office at divisional level at which problems and suggestions of mutual interest were discussed and management policies explained.
9.107. The two annual sporting events organized by the Department were enthusiastically supported by staff of the office. In the 2nd Swimming Gala held in November 1970, honours won included gold medals in men's 50 M. breaststroke and butterfly and a bronze medal in men's 200 M. freestyle. Apart from producing Mr. WONG Kar-wood as the best athlete and best field athlete in the 3rd P.W.D. Sports Day, the Office also took first places in the long jump and hop-step-and jump; 2nd places in bowling and volley ball and 3rd places in badminton, basket-ball, miniature football, table tennis and javelin.
9.108. Christmas parties were held on both sides of the Harbour for members of the office and the functions proved highly successful.

With the exception of Mr. ZELL, who kindly consented and gave a talk on recent trends of traffic and transportation planning and innovations in the U.S.A. to a selected group of Officers, the other visitors were given conducted tours of various highway projects in progress around the colony and were favourably impressed.
