City Hall

8.33. The City Hall Electrical & Mechanical Services Section maintains all the electrical, mechanical and air-conditioning systems in the City Hall, carrying out repairs of faults, replacement of lamps of all types, installation of temporary wiring and flood/display light fittings and operates air-conditioning plant of 700 tons refrigeration as well as 20 zone cabinets. Operators were provided for the stage lighting of 1,022 performances and rehearsals, 329 cinema projections and 33 slide shows. Modifications were made to the focusing movement mechanism in three 16 mm. Sound/Silent Projectors. Permanent wiring was installed and a synchronizing change-over unit manufactured for the non-interrupted projection of 16 mm. films. Additional slave control panels were installed inside the Dimmer Rack for Concert Hall System and Theatre System for rapid control when repair or maintenance work is being carried out. On the air-conditioning side, additional strainers were installed in the sea-water system to eliminate choking of the cooling water system.

Kai Tak Airport

8.34. The Kai Tak Airport Electrical and Mechanical Services Section maintains all the electrical, mechanical and air-conditioning systems as well as the runway and landing approach lights, substation equipment, air navigation beacons, baggage conveyor systems and aerobridges at the airport. In addition to normal routine maintenance and overhaul, this section has undertaken the installation of several additional essential power supply cables complete with M.C.B. boards; the installation and commissioning of an 11 KV high tension Oil Circuit Breaker, two 11 KV high tension Oil Switches, a 400 KVA transformer, three 400 Amperes MV Oil Circuit Breakers, and internal lighting and power system in new Substation 'D'; the installation of 1,300 yards of multi-core remote control cable for the new taxi-way lighting system at the Apron Extension and Thermograph equipment at the north-west end of the runway from the Control Tower; the installation and commissioning of 'Densok' Metal Detectors at Passenger Departure Ramps and 747 Pier; the inspection and primary injection test of thirty-four 800/2,000 Amperes Air Circuit Breakers for both the Airport and other Government projects; and the disconnection and removal of 8 sets of high intensity and low intensity landing approach lights complete with transformers in connection with the Runway Extension.
