4.35. Piling work for a Fire Station at Kwai Chung was in hand whilst construction of a further fire station at King's Park was started. Both these stations are standard eleven-storey buildings and will provide two bays for fire appliances together with married quarters and children's play area.

General Government Buildings

4.36. On 23rd August, 1969, the Director of Public Works performed a traditional topping out ceremony on the roof of the new Government office building in Garden Road to mark the completion of the superstructure. This building, to be known as Murray Building, is 27 storeys high (including basements) and will house most of the Public Works Department. It has been built on the site of the former Murray Barracks and at the end of the year it was being fitted out ready for occupation.
