# Triangulation and Traversing
170. 131 triangulation stations were visited, 12 repaired and 83 new ones established. 993 permanent survey marks were fixed by 94 miles of traversing.
# Levelling
171. 61 miles of precise levelling establishing 147 bench marks were completed, and 44 miles of ordinary levels were run to provide spot heights on the 1/600 survey sheets.
172. The average mean sea level for the year was computed from 2 tide gauges.
# Revision
173. 2,585 acres or 4 square miles were surveyed for the large scale 1/600 survey of Hong Kong and Kowloon, involving 218 miles of detail traverse. 126 sheets of this series (64 of Hong Kong and 62 of Kowloon) are now available. 212 acres were revised for scale 1/1200 survey of New Territories, Tsuen Wan district.
174. A start has been made on the second revision of the Central District, Hong Kong as the previous revision of 1954 is getting out of date.
# Topographical
175. Contour surveys for town planning and development schemes covered 1,855 acres or nearly 3 square miles.
The Surveys were plotted at:
Scale 1/600 462 acres 10′ V.I. Scale 1/1200 322 acres 10' V.I. Scale 1/2400 1,071 acres 20' V.I.# Miscellaneous
176. Surveyors attended court on twenty-five occasions to give evidence and prepared 21 surveys for Police cases. 7 miles of new road line were set out.
# Training
177. Twenty-three assistant land surveyors and twenty probationer assistant engineering and land surveyors have been under training. All are given basic survey training for two years in theodolite traversing, tacheometric survey, detail survey, precise and ordinary levelling, precise traversing, triangulation observation and resection, plotting and drawing and instrument adjustment.
