204. Once again the Laboratory increased the number of tests carried out not only for the department but also for outside firms. No less than 5,786 tests were made on the compressive strength of concrete, which included 223 tests for outside firms and 1,800 tests for Tai Lam Chung Dam. The number of cubes tested was 27% more than in the previous year.

205. Tests of the compressive strength of concrete pipes were also carried out in the Laboratory for the Drainage Office. In addition, standard tests were also performed on cement to a total of 799. Many new brands of cement which have lately been introduced into the Colony were tested.
